| It's a small out of the way bike shop. You know what I mean-- Tucked up a side street, an independent store, not a dealer. You spy the sign one day while out for a ride, go right by it, and then-- Something makes you turn around and pull in. You park your bike, and walk inside to check it out. Its looks dingy, but you never know. Maybe there are some nice bikes, some rare machinery. And friendly people, with stories to tell. It's empty, and there's not much work to be done. There's a sign up that says customers aren't allowed in the work area, but Big Sid doesn't give a damn about "liability"and you get to go back and see for yourself. At Big Sid's you got the run of the place: look, read, learn. And maybe you got a question, that's ok--just contact Big Sid and we will do what we can. What else? Well, if you like the vintage pics and the writing, then please consider buying a copy of Vincents with Big Sid. We also have a few other items to flog, so visit the swapmeet . I also encourage you to sign our guestbook so that we can inform you of updates. Now that the photohistory is done, Big Sid can finally finish the memoir: A Wish in the Veins, a tale of motorcycling, and so stay tuned. Meanwhile spend some time at Big Sid's. We humbly think that if you do you will want to own the books excerpted here, and with luck, and your support, we can make that happen. Big Sid's. Only on the net. |

Through the Megaphone #7: Parting Thoughts, or | |||||
Ye ol' editor's 1999 shook down in pretty good shape motorcycle wise. Me own Vin' (Lexsa by name) has rumbled to life and the test-riders (lucky sumbitches all) report that I would be a fool to ever part with this one. Meantime I wore out another set of Dunlops on my trusty Hawk, whom I continue to adore, and who continues to perform flawlessly, especially during my visits to my friends at Commonwealth Motorcycles in Louisville KY. Not too long ago, Edward, Mr. Commonwealth Motorcycles hisself, pressed into my hand the key fob to his shop's demonstrater, a tasty 750 Monster Dark since cannibalized for its aftermarket cannister and fibercarbon tidbits, and Edward told me to go away for the day and say hello to the horses for him. That I did readers, whilst sampling this latest Italian stunner. Despite the lack of slack in the controls and the grabby clutch, wait, what am I saying, in part because Ducati demands super precise engagement, I loved eating up the road on that thing, though I came away thinking aftermarket seat, pronto! Big Sid has added two new bikes to his fabled stable, a beautiful blue Suzuki SV650, and another Vincent project bike that the readers of Big Sid's (that's you fine people) will no doubt be learning about when, errrr, when we reappear after Y2K. These additions take the space of "Fast Lady," a stunning B Rapide that is now the treasure of Jason Saxon, our new friend who lives in the city by the bay. I also have to give a shout-out to my ace face visual artist Tim at Design Pirates for garning a GRAPHIC DESIGN:USA 1999 AWARD for his work on our modest little literary offering Vincents with Big Sid's. Tim's fantastic design is a big reason why we will be going away. You see, after Christmas we just won't have books to sell. But rest assured Sid and I are hard at work on new offerings. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the NEW OFFERINGS in this issue: Musings from the legendary Terry Prince, a look at Lexsa, a shot of the Amanda Water Scooter, and a look at the wonderful sculpture by Jeff Decker of that most famous motorcycling moment: Rollie Free on the bathing suit Vincent. Enjoy your stay at Big Sid's, and look for us down the road.
