At its heart, A Wish in the Veins is the story of two men and the dream they share of building a bike that will take them faster on two wheels than anyone before them in history.
A Wish in the Veins goes beyond tired "biker" images and taps into the reasons why motorcycles are enjoying their current revival. Men and women buy a motorcycle to have an adventure--my book is an adventure, an adventure in motorcycling. This novel tells the story of two men, friends and teammates--Buzz Rosen (the racer) and Mac McGowan (the mechanic). The narrative starts in the Edenic time prior to Pearl Harbor when the two men are high school boys running whiskey, and culminates with their 1960 Land Speed World's Record Runs at Bonneville, Utah. (The time period is important because this was an era in sport when two average joes really could trailer their own home brewed drag bike out to the Salt Flats, break the record, and become heroes.) The story then fades out into the present, an autumnal time of getting in those last few rides. Woven into this action plot is the tale of these two men, their friendship, and the women who pass through their lives.
The projected format calls for a soft bound book, size of 6" X 9" with 270 pages featuring 10 black and white photographs. Estimated cost: 15 dollars, plus shipping. If you are interested in owning a copy, please sign my guestbook and tell me. As is the case with our nonfiction offering, Vincents with Big Sid: A Photohistory, Big Sid's will publish the book privately if there is sufficient interest.
