Biography

A freelance photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, JaShong King has worked in photography as a camera salesperson, wet lab technician, digital imaging specialist, picture editor, photo director, wedding, portrait, commercial, landscape and newspaper photographer.

Work Experience

Photo Intern for the New London Day (Summer 2004)
Full time intern in charge of shooting assignments for a 50,000 circ. daily newspaper in eastern Connecticut, covering a variety of events and breaking news.

Picture Editor for the Spartan Daily (Spring 2004)
Coordinating a staff of 6 full time photographers and 2 part time photographers, handling duties including work scheduling, assignment delegation, picture editing, pre-press color correction, and advising the Director of Photography on preferences in the usage of photos.

Reporter for the Spartan Daily (Fall 2003)
Covered the student government beat, broke the story on the collapse in contract talks between the university and the local transportation agency, covered sports, meetings, breaking news, as well as generated features for a 6,000 circulation campus daily newspaper.

Photo Intern for the New Orleans Times-Picayune (Summer 2003)
Full time intern covering news throughout southeast Louisiana for a 250,000 circulation paper. Photographed tropical storms, floods, car accidents, murders, shootings, minor league baseball, portraits, features and the overall culture of the New Orleans area.

Photo Intern for the Pinnacle Newspaper (Summer 2002)
Full time intern responsible for all news in two California counties on the weekends, as well as contributing photographs on weekdays for an 18,000 circ. weekly newspaper with two other staff photographers. Duties included shooting as well as reporting general and spot news, sports, portraiture, and developing self-generated projects.

Pre-press color correction and black and white toning for Photoshop, QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign layout, fluent with both Mac OS and Windows, strong familiarity with both Canon and Nikon systems, including their lines of digital cameras, good comprehension of studio lighting techniques and equipment, and well versed in photographic art and visual design theory.
