Message to the current
occupant of the White House and to both Houses of Congress...
What an opportunity you've all had in
2009, but sadly you wasted it; you deliberately chose to set up the
so-called 'debate' over healthcare reform as a classic case of the fox
taking care of the chickens, the wolf watching over the sheep, etc. So
it's hardly surprising the recently passed House bill is not health
care reform; it is legislation crafted largely by health insurers for
health insurers and promises to be the largest taxpayer financed
windfall the insurance companies have ever received. To describe this
to the American people as akin to the enactment of Social Security and
Medicare is shameful and just flat out dishonest. The pending Senate
bill appears to offer more of the same.
Here's the deal...
Until different folks occupy your
seats -- ones with enough courage and sufficient numbers to pass the
kind of legislation America needs, we don't want you to enact any
'reform'. As bad as the current situation is we feel no change will be
better than what's currently on the table.
Mr President, we'd like to believe
you meant all that stuff you said last year on the campaign trail about
change 'cause if so you'll veto health care reform until America gets
the bill it deserves (outlined below) -- we think we're not alone in
this belief.
- Real reform will replace
the current funding model based largely on private for-profit health
insurance corporations with a publicly funded non-profit single-payer
agency.
- Real reform will retain
America's excellent private healthcare delivery system but require providers who wish to participate in the new system to accept fee payments set by the single-payer
agency.
- Real reform will free US
employers from the burden of funding healthcare and release America's
workers from the captivity of job-dependant health insurance.
- Real reform will
marginalize the private insurance companies to where they belong -
covering services outside the scope of the publicly financed system.
- Real reform will provide
every American with 'cradle to grave' access to the publicly financed
system. Service will be universal, free and unconditional.
- What this all amounts to
is essentially an expansion of Medicare to cover 100% of the American
people with 0% co-payment.
To our members of Congress, if
you need further information on what will better serve America's
interests may we respectfully suggest you give Congressman Dennis
Kucinich a call. We're sure he would love to talk to you about HR 676.
