Songs from a Patagonian Yurt

By Tom and Susan (second couple from left)

(To the tune of "Happy Wanderer/Valderee-Valderaa")

I love to go awandering, Along the mountain track
And as I go, I love to sing With my knapsack on my back

(Chorus)
Val de ree
Val de rah
Val de ree
Val de rah hah hah hah hah hah
Val de ree
Val de rah
My knapsack on my back

The first night out, we slept in yurts
At Los Torres Eco-Camp.
Each domed tent had a comforter,
a heater, and a lamp.

(Chorus)

The second day, we traversed the park
By car, on foot, by boat.
Nandus, icebergs, horned peaks we saw
Bundled in our Gore-Tex coats.

(Chorus)

At Pehoe Camp, we slept in tents
Battered by wind and rain.
"You must accept," guide Roberto said,
As we set off on foot again.

(Chorus) Patrick and Christine raced up Grey Lake
To the glacier mirador.
Morgan ran not far behind
And could have run much more.

(Chorus)

Dan and Erika looked for birds
They identified quite a few.
Nels told stories of herbs and berries
And the magic they could do.

(Chorus)

On the fourth day out we walked in rain,
Then snow, hail, and sleet.
We roamed the Valle del Frances
Until wet from head to feet.

(Chorus)

The fifth day out was sunny and clear,
Judy, Carla, and Heather followed the treats.
As the guides ranged over unmarked trails,
Leaving Eimar for condor meat.

(Chorus)

Los Torres was the final goal
On the last day of our trek.
The sky stayed clear, so we bagged that view
But our bodies, they were a wreck.

(Chorus)

So now our trek has come to an end.
Good memories we'll take with us.
We hope our paths with cross again.
Meantime, vios con dios.
