| Notes from Joyce Essmiller: On the 50th anniversary of Robert and Maria Merten's wedding in 1911, the whole family gathered at son Frank's farm to celebrate. Elsie was very excited since her mother had sewed a new red checkered dress for her. The occassion was recorded in at least two large photos. After everyone had finished eating, Robert Merten rose to read from a piece of paper regarding the Merten history. This was a rare occurance since Robert had always seemed reluctant to speak of his ancestory up until this time. Unfortunatley, Elsie remembered no specifics of Robert's speech since she was anxious to go outdoors to play. ============================================ Cousin of Elsie not yet entered: Leila Wheeler, located in London, Ohio in 1907. Baptismal certificate stored with family pictures states: Elsie Susie Ann Merten baptised 7/17/04, Southwest Kansas conference, Methodist Episcopal Church. | ||||||||||||||||||||
