"Emmanuel was a cooper according to his will. He died in Smithfield, RI where he was cared for by Phoebe Thornton and her daughter Tabetha. The will was dated, 11 May 1739 and was proven on 7 July 1739, so his death occurred between these dates. William Green, Esq. of Warwick, RI and Thomas Owen, blacksmith of Providence, RI were executors fo the estate "where Benjamin Wright lives"."57

"The following was found in the Newport, RI General Court of Trials, Volume A, 1671-1724 (IGI 0945807)":
"Att A Gen 11 Court of Tryals and Gen 11 Goal Delivery begun and held a Newport the last Tuesday of March 1719.
WHEREAS Sarah Rouse the wife of Emmanuel Rouse of East Greenwich in the Colony of Rhode Island has (before the Judges of the Gen 11 Court of Tryals) Sworn the peace against her husband for that she was afraid her said husband would take away her life, and she being duly examin'd and the case considered the Judgement of this court is that she said Sarah Rouse may live separately by her selfe fron her husband she maintaining her self without any charge to her said husband until they can mutually agree between themselves or received further order fron lawful authority. And that said Emmanuel Rouse shall have no accon-- in any court whatsoever against any person that shall entertain her during such time or aforesaid. This court dissolved. A-302."57 |
