Jake was the 7th child of Charles and Susan. He was born 19 Jan 1873 in Calhoun County, Ala. on 19th Jan 1873 and died 15 Feb 1899. Jake earned his living by extracting what he needed from the earth. He was a farmer, mostly cotton, and he operated a sawmill and a grist mill.
His first wife was Nanny Heathcock. Nanny was born 29 Nov 1877 and died of tuberculosis on 15th Feb 1966. Jake and Nanny had two sons:
Charles Ranson (10 April 1896 - 12 Aug 1976)
Carl Frederick (23 July 1898 - 21 Nov 1978)
Jake's second wife was Susan Elizabeth "Lizzie" Morris. Lizzie is said to have suffered epilspsy after the birth of her son Roy. In the beginning of her illness Jake took her to Brice's hospital in Tuscolla, Ala. Later on he contracted with a caretaker: Elizabeth Shaw Easterwood ( 27 May 1892 - 19 Nov 1980). The story is Jake deeded Elizabeth 18 acres of land for taking care of Lizzie. Lizzie died on 16th May 1920 and is buried in the Oak Grove Baptist cemetery. Jake, Nanny, Lizzie and Elizabeth Shaw are all buried nearby.
