Founded in 1989 with a handful of ET&WNC enthusiasts, The ET&WNC Railroad Historical Society has expanded to approximately 500 loyal followers of the little narrow-gauge railroad. Intent upon preserving the history of the line, the society holds a convention once a year in June in the ET&WNC area, and has been instrumental in helping preserve several of the few remaining pieces of rolling stock. The society also preserves artifacts, photos and historical documents pertaining to the East Tennessee And Western North Carolina Railroad/Linville River Railway. A one-year membership to the non-profit historical society costs $15.00, of which $10.00 goes for a subscription to the twice-yearly journal of the society, "The Blue Ridge Stemwinder", produced for the society by John Waite and Chris Ford. The remaining $5.00 goes into the society's operating budget which includes some funds for the society's projects. Contact Larry Brown for more information or for a membership. The eighteenth annual convention was held June 16, 17 & 18, 2006 in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Contact Johnny Graybeal for more information about the
2007 convention. See Rick Blanchard's excellent website http://www.urbaneagle.com/slim/etwnc.html for more historical society information.Officers and their contact information: President
