Sutton's educational structure divides each grade level into two academic teams.
Each team consists of four to five primary studies teachers with 120 or 160 students.
Class sizes range from 16 to 32, averaging 26 students.
The seven period school day allows five academic classes in the team setting, and
two classes of exploratories, physical education, or fine arts.Reading writing, and
analytical thinking skills are stressed across the curriculum.
Because each team has all classes within individual defined areas, a feeling of
six smaller schools within one middle school prevails. The team concept has proven to be a
winning structure for students, taking pride in the achievements of their respective
teams, as well as their own progress.
Sutton produces many high achievers, with about 30% of the student body scoring in
the top 3 percentile on the standardized national tests. Sutton has a proven track record
of preparing students for the high schools of their choices. About 30% achieve the honor
roll throughout the entire school year.
