• Reviews of Quality Assurance Project Plans with Guaranteed Savings (See my position paper). If a review of your Quality Assurance Project Plan by Chatham Ventures does not save your project money, you pay nothing. After the Introduction, the four main sections of the Paper deal with saving analytical costs by reduction of 2nd Column Confirmations, Field Blanks, Matrix Spikes / Duplicates, and Field Duplicates. Many of the requirements under the Superfund/CLP program do not apply to later phases in the investigation/remediation and are a waste of time and money. One example which could substantially reduce environmental analytical costs during remediation is a reminder to on-site managers that the EPA and the state agencies DO NOT CARE how you decide to CONTINUE remediation; they only care how you decide to STOP remediation. This means that you should use the fastest means available to determine the presence of contaminants, including your eyes and nose, rapid immunoassay tests, and rapid on-site gas chromatography.

• Data Review and Validation(click here) - Experience ranges from CLP Level IV through field analytical data. Most data reviewers are Data Verifiers, which means that they verify that the data meets a set of specified criteria such as surrogate and spike recoveries. A true Data Validator is capable of determining if a set of data can be used to meet project DQOs even when some of the criteria are not met.

• Field Analytical Support using an On-Site Gas Chromatograph. The primary key to successful on-site analytical projects is speed. Drilling crews and remediation crews should never waste time waiting for analytical results.

• Development of Excel Spread-Sheets and Access Data-Bases. The use of spread-sheets and data-bases together can optimize the conversion of raw analytical data (from an on-site GC) into publishable reports and charts. If you have a requirement for a spread-sheet or data-base application, e-mail me some examples of the starting files, a description of their origin and number, and a description of the required end product. If Chatham Ventures can't develop a suitable application, you pay nothing. These programs are very powerful at processing large numbers of GC files much faster and more reliably than is possible any other way.

• Presentation of Seminars on Environmental Topics(click here) With Emphasis on QA/QC. My seminars are aimed at non-chemists and include a workbook containing the overheads and a number of materials which have been found to be valuable references. These seminars are ";under construction";.
