DATA REVIEW AND VALIDATION
Data Validation is a systematic effort to review data to assure
acceptable quality.
Data verification demonstrates that a set of data meets a
specified set of criteria. This is usually the extent of the data
review process conducted for most projects.
The purpose of data validation is to demonstrate that a
set of data meets the requirements of the user. This includes
data verification plus determination of the useability of data
which is outside the specified criteria.
For example, if a project is required to show that the benzene
concentration in water is less than 5 ppb and the specified criteria
for spike recoveries is 75 to 125%, a portion of the data from
a batch having spike recovery of 50% is useable for the 5ppb requirement.
All samples with results less than 2.5 ppb benzene after conversion
to 100% recovery are useable for showing a concentration less
than 5.0 ppb benzene.
(2.5 x 100/50 = 5.0)
IN SUMMARY: Do you want your data reviewed by a data
verifier or a data validator???
