The Hub came to Atlanta on April 18th, 1997,
to perform in the Arts in the Village Festival at Georgia Tech.
They were the inaugural performance in the hi-tech GCATT
auditorium, which featured two ethernet connections for every
seat, as well as a top-of-the-line audio system. They allowed
us to record their performance for a webcast, as well as to
produce this CD.
The recording was made to a single DAT using a pair of shotgun
mics aimed at the auditorium's main speakers. The audio was
then digitized into SoundEdit 16 and then brought into Deck II
to adjust for balance.
Included as the last track on the CD is a recording of their
final composition, "Luv Connection." This was a completely
audience-driven experiment in which participants used their
own computers on the local network to access a web server that
was located on stage. Accessing a specific web page, the
audience could trigger MIDI events from 26 possible selections,
which were subsequently fed out to the various synthesizers
connected to the hub.
The cover design was derived from a series of still frames
taken from video shot during the performance, including
some excerpts from the film "Battleship Potempkin."
