My Personal Statement of Belief in Jesus

he who has ears to hear … - Jesus in gospels

Proverbs 1:7 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge”

Proverbs 9:10 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”

Proverbs 19:21 – “Many are the plans in a man’s heart,

but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails”

Proverbs 17:28a – “Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent”

These are my ‘memory verses’.  I have them on 3x5 index cards, text on one side, chapter/verse citation on the other.

Here they are:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

            Mt 7:7

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

            Mt. 6:33

“Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”

            Eccl. 12:13b

“I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”

            John 14:6

“Behold! I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”

            Revelation 3:20

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

            Psalm 19:14

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

            Proverbs 3:5-6

“The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.”

            Proverbs 18:15

“Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.”

            Romans 3:20

“Search me, O God, and know my heart;  test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

            Psalm 139:23-24

“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

            Mark 8:34b, Matt 16:24b

“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Luke 9:23b – note the difference

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

            2 Timothy 1:7  (NKJV)
