My dad's family was mainly from southeastern Kentucky. His father, Robert Lee Strange, was born in Wise County, Virginia. His father was Benjamin Fearl "B.F." Strange. Benjamin married Sarah Perry in Wise Co. VA in 1887. Sarah died during or shortly after her second child, Lilly Strange, was born. Benjamin then moved his family to Knott County, KY. Robert Lee told one of his daughters that he remembered moving to KY. He remembered being about seven years old and coming through the gap on horses.
Winnie Mullins was my grandmother. We called her Maw Win. Her parents were Alexander "Alec" Mullins and Franky Jane Hall, married on August 29, 1889 in Knott County, KY. Alexander Mullins was the son of Rachel Kennedy/Canady and Bill Mullins or Ile Trent. There are conflicting sources. Franky Jane Hall was the daughter of Rhoda Bentley and Lewis "Bad Lewis" Hall.
My mom's family is from Michigan, Ohio, and Canada. Her father, Norman James Dimeck, was born on September 23, 1915 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. His father was William James Dimeck. William married Catherine Grace Walsh probably in Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan.
Frances Marion Sawmiller was my grandmother. Her parents were Benjamin Harrison Sawmiller and Alta Bernice Coffman. Her father was born June 28, 1890 and mother was born August 14, 1898. They might have been born in Ohio or Michigan.
