Mark 6 vs. 1-6 (people saw Him as "just a carpenter") vs. 14-16 (Herod saw Him as a "thundering prophet") vs. 41-44 [Jn. 6:14-15] (the crowd saw Him as a "King") vs. 48-49 (His disciples saw Him as a "ghost") Matthew 16:13-16 Jesus was asking His disciples, "Whom do men say that I am?" His disciples answered, "Some say you are Jeremiah or John the Baptist or one of the Prophets." But then Jesus looked at Peter with His Galilean Glaze and said, "But who do you say that I am?" He did not ask him who do you perceive me to be, or who do you think that I am, or who do people around you say that I am. No, He got personal, Who do YOU say that I am? Peter could had responded no better than the way he did. He could had said Daystar, Prince of Peace, The Lily in my Valley, the Rose of Sharon, or any other name, but yet he said, "Thou art the Christ." As the body of Christ, we know that Christ means "Anointed One." Isaiah describes anointing as "burden removing and yoke destroying." So what Peter's response really was -- "You are my YOKE DESTOYER and my BURDEN REMOVER" Jesus is just about ready to walk up to you, right in the middle of your mess, grab you by the lapels, and ask you, "WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?" I say that He is my healer, my baptizer, my deliverer, my restorer, etc. Dwight L. Moody was onced asked a question, "How big is God?" His response was, "GOD IS AS BIG AS YOUR FAITH WILL ALLOW HIM TO BE!" Who do you say that He is? How big is your God? He is as big as your faith will allow Him to be.
