• Abacho: Der Erste Deutsche Crawler im Internet  Also includes special searches for images. Additionally, after getting the results of a search, a drop-down menu offers more specialized concepts of the original term.
• Metacrawler.DE The standard search lets you use radio buttons for "eines der Wörter" "alle Wörter" or "genauer Text". The "ProfiSuche also lets you chose the databases to be searched.
• DINO  One of the pioneer and larger search engines; has both a Yahoo-like edited WebCatalog;and two search functions: DINO Suche for its own edited catalog and Lotse for everything in the German-language web
• Excite - Deutsche Ausgabe  German language version of the US search engine; choices offered are searches within german language sites, European sites or worldwide sites.
• FIREBALL Express Suche   In addition to German language searches, this machine also uses 2 dozen other languages; related to Alta Vista. Includes a  "Detailsuche" mode for more control of parameters.
• Klammeraffe, der österreichische Web-Guide Specializing in Austrian sites, this edited web guide claims 10,000 Austrian sites which have been evaluated; commercial and business tilt.
• Telekom Austria, the Austrian telephone monopoly, has a Yahoo/Lycos/Excite style personal home page with a directory of family-oriented links, varying from content filled [Hiking in Austria] to fluff [How To Become a Pop-Star]. But it also includes a search section that enables you to narrow down your search to Austrian or German or Swiss or to all German language sites.  
• Search11: Suchmaschine der Schweiz   Focussed on Swiss sources and interests and including specialized searches for employment ["Jobs.search11"] and lonely-hearts ["Flirt-search"].
• T-Online  This major German ISP also runs a portal on the style of My Yahoo or AOL; the usual news, shopping, sports, cultural, etc. connections but with a German language and culture focus.
• Kolibri / Orbiter  After a somewhat cutesy introduction and a pop up warning to turn on your browser's Javascript, go to "Detailsuche" to find images, videos, sound files.
• YumYum Culture and Entertainment Search Not only movie showings, cultural happenings, music shows but also a Ticketboerse to exchange and trade tickets and a Mitfahrerzentrale for hitching rides. Includes Germany but tilted towards Austria. Best entry is through the "Suchbegriff" field at the top of the page where you enter dates and city or area.
