W hile we expect that things will slow down after Memorial Day here at Church of the Painted Hills, that doesn’t seem to be the case this year!F irst of all we will continue with our regular worship schedule – Sunday mornings at ten o’clock with fellowship afterwards. Christian Education continues through the first half of this month.P entecost Sunday falls on May 11th this year. Remember to wear red, the liturgical color of celebration and the Holy Spirit! We will also celebrate the “Festival of the Christian Home,” otherwise known as Mothers’ Day – all mothers in the congregation will be honored that morning.R ecognition Sunday takes place on the 18th when we will thank all those who provided leadership for our many classes this year. Appropriately, it is also Trinity Sunday, the only Sunday on the liturgical calendar dedicated to a doctrine of the church.T he national offices of the United Church of Christ have called on all congregations in the denomination to mark Sunday the 18th with a “Sacred Conversation About Race.” Pastor Lee is preparing, using the many resources available through our denomination, to preach on the subject.A ll of our regular board and committee meetings will still take place this month. Over the summer months some boards will drop a meeting or two, so make sure you check the calendars in the next few issues of The Voice.T his month also will be a time of preparation for “Camp CPH” which goes into full swing come June. One added note: a centering prayer group is forming this month, jumping the gun just a little. Centering prayer is an easily-learned, ancient practice of quieting the mind in order to increase our openness to God. The group meets every Tuesday morning at 9:30.P lease note that the church office will be closed on Monday, May 26th, in observance of Memorial Day.S ee you in church!
