Cradle
I let someone else select this project for me. As a wedding gift for my brother and his new bride,
I said I'd make any piece of furniture they'd like for their new home. They thought about it for a
long time, but finally settled on on a cradle. I managed to locate several different cradle plans
on the web and in the various woodworking books that I have; no doubt this is a popular poject!
What they settled on was the pendulum style cradle plan from Better Homes and Gardens' Furniture
Projects.

The cradle is constructed entirely of Hard Maple, except for the Walnut dowels, pin and knob. I
jointed all of the boards then cut biscuit slots for the glue-up with my new
Porter-Cable 557 plate joiner. Wow, that sure made the
job fast and easy!
I kept reasonably accurate notes this time regarding how much time I actually spent working on
the project. According to my notes I began on July 19, worked on the cradle exactly 14 days,
spent 1 to 5 hours per work day on the cradle for a total of 43.5 hours, and completed the
cradle on the morning of September 18.
