Casino is key city to look for on the autostrada (A-1) between Rome to the North and Naples to the South.

A very famous-major battle took place in Casino during World War II. The Germans held the monastery high on the mountain and blocked, for a long time, the American armies advance to Rome. Isernia is east of Casino, Cantalupo southeast of Isernia.

Speaking of World War II, Cantalupo was occupied by both the German army and the British army. The German troops were regular army and from what I have been told by two eye witnesses, the German troops were much more disciplined that the British troops.
