Interpreters There are at least three REXX interpreters available for free on the Internet. The first two are Unix based and are
well-supported by their authors. The third is an MS-DOS interpreter. Regina is Anders Christensen's REXX interpreter for various flavours of Unix and VMS. It is fairly complete and Anders even has an API for
developers. Anders may be reached at anders@pvv.unit.no. Mark Hessling has ported Regina to DOS, OS/2 and Win95/NT. Regina's official home is http://regina-rexx.sourceforge.net REXX/imc is Ian Collier's REXX interpreter for SunOS, though it has also been ported to other Unix systems. Ian may be
reached at imc@prg.ox.ac.uk. BREXX is Bill Vlachoudis' REXX interpreter for MS-DOS. The interpreter is not complete but is quite small. Bill may be reached at bill@donoussa.physics.auth.gr. All three interpreters are available for anonymous FTP on rexx.uwaterloo.ca in the
/pub/freerexx directory (each interpreter in its own subdirectory). Regina and REXX/imc are in source form, BREXX is only available as binary. REXX-Aware Text Editors THE
is a freeware text editor based on the VM/CMS editor; XEDIT. There are versions of THE
for most Unixes (both character mode and native X11), OS/2, DOS and Win95/NT. All of these ports use REXX as the macro language. THE's official home is ftp://ftp.qut.edu.au/pub/markh/THE but mirrors of this site exist around the world. See Mark Hessling's home page http://www.gu.edu.au/gext/the/markh.html for further details. REXX Extensions A rich set of Rexx functions from
Dave Boll are available in the RXU package which may be found at ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/os/os2/leo/rexx/rxu1a.zip A complete set of the usual
calculator functions, calculated to arbitrary precision, is provided in the RXXMATH package by John Brock. It also has a special "CALC" function that evaluates complex expressions to very high
precision. RXXMATH may be found at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/dev/rexx/rxxmath.zip. |
