climb:

any method of gaining height on the fabric. probably the most intuitive is the hand-over-hand climb; but it requires considerable upper-body strength, and so in performance is generally used only as a way of showing off the performer's strength. in that vein, there are a few climbs which are more difficult than the hand-over-hand.

the basic climb, by contrast, is considerably easier. there are also several which are intermediate in difficulty, but visually interesting, like the same-side climb.
