Dr. John Frederick DeBardeleben

Personal:

Son of John Ferdinand DeBardeleben and Clarissa Lucinda Wooten.  Born 5 July, 1828 at Blackstock, Chester County, South Carolina.  Was living at Cedar Creek, Bastrop County, Texas at the time of the war.  Died 3 September, 1876 at Cedar Creek.  Gravesite is located at the Upper Creek Cemetery in Cedar Creek, Texas.

Married to Mary Catherine Murchison on 5 April, 1858.  Children: Ada, John, William, Kenneth, Lily, Frederick, Mary, Minnie, Clarissa and Chester


Military:

March 22, 1862   Enlisted in the 17th Texas Infantry as a private
April 4, 1862   Stationed at Camp Terry, Texas
November 2, 1863   Stationed at Camp Liberty, Texas
    Transferred to 4th Texas Cavalry - elected Surgeon
    Participated in some battles in the "Trans-Mississippi" area: Louisiana and Mississippi.
     
    As a "side-note" - John Frederick's widow did not apply for her widow's pension until she was over 90 (in 1928)
     
    John Frederick was the brother of two other DeBardeleben's in the service of the CSA - Richard K. DeBardeleben and Arthur Alexander DeBardeleben
