Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Membership

The DAR allows membership if you are descended from someone who served the Independence cause during the American Revolution.  We are all descended from someone who fought to prevent independence; however, everyone has than one ancestor and there are several DeBard lines that qualify for DAR membership by virtue of "Patriot" ancestry.  Here are some details if you'd care to apply for DAR membership:

From the Patriot Index:
MENEFEE, George
Birth: VA
Service: GA
Rank: Sol
Death: GA 6 Dec 1840
Patriot Pensioned: No  Widow Pensioned: No
Children Pensioned: No  Heirs Pensioned: No
Spouse: Elizabeth Tatum
Spouse: Nancy Collier

You contact the DAR and give them the line from this Patriot to you (and here it is):
George Menefee m. Elizabeth Tatum
their son: William Menefee (1798-1880) m. Eliza W. Boring
their dau: Phala Sanford Menefee (1828-1877) m. John Arthur DeBardeleben (1822-1880)
their children were:
Eliza Marie DeBardeleben (b 1846)
William James DeBardeleben (b. 1850)
John Finley DeBardeleben (b. 1851)
Francis Joseph DeBardeleben (b. 1854)
Albert Green DeBardeleben (b. 1856)

If you are descended from Eliza Marie, William James, John Finley, Francis Joseph or Albert Green; then you can use this DAR reference.  If you aren't sure, please contact me and I will help you out.

Here's another DAR line for Debards thanks to Duncan Black:
If you are descended from William Edward DeBardelaben, you can apply for DAR membership.  William Edward's wife was Caroline Francis Buyck thr
ough her grandfather Augustine Buyck and her great grandfather, the Ghent/Amsterdam banker Peter Buyck, both patriots due to their financing of the frigate South Carolina.  Augustine was actually on board the ship during a number of engagements although both were Low Country nationals (as was most of the crew), and both emigrated to the new nation.  See Neptune's Militia by James A. Lewis of Western Carolina University, published in 1999 by Kent State University Press

You can check the DAR website at www.dar.org and then look at membership and application
