I wrote the book!
Second edition book cover The second edition (current to release 4.6) was published in January 2002 by AuthorHouse (formerly 1stBooks Library). This book contains detailed descriptions of commands available through Basis Release 6.10 (R/3 Release 4.6, CRM, EBP and SCM) with almost all their options ("additions" in SAP lingo). It also describes all the operators, functions, system variables and type conversions. It includes lists of selected transaction codes and tables that programmers regularly use, and examples of the use of many of the commands.

Notice
This edition does NOT include any Object ABAP information. An SAP reviewer pointed out to me that some of the information is incomplete (e.g. MODULE), incorrect (e.g. TABLES) or obselete (e.g. OCCURS and ON CHANGE OF) for current (release 4.6) commands. I'm sure his list of deficiencies is not comprehensive. I wrote the original book when the online help files were (to be generous) much less complete than today. I believe this book can still be useful to ABAP programmers, but do check HELP when you're doing anything subtle.

If you send me errors or shortcomings that you notice in the book I will add them to the list of corrections for this edition so everyone can benefit from your discoveries.
