Matt, Chris, and Jin on the Appalachian Trail from Woody Gap to Neels Gap March'04

The high peak to the left is Blood Mountain, the highest point on the Georgia Appalachian Trail @ 4461 feet. This is our destination. Right behind me when I took this picture is the guard rail Chris almost fed us for lunch on Sunday. We did see a motorcyclist eat the pavement there.

This is us at Woody Gap. Matt was unable to find Chris's tire tool he left at Woody after 3 seconds of searching. We had to out-wait a truck with 6 mexicans crammed in the cab before we would leave Matt's truck unattended.

We each took turns getting our picture made beside an exciting blood mountain sign!

An uprooted tree. I would think this picture is pretty much self explainatory and does not require a caption as to why I would take a picture of a tree that's been uprooted.

It's Mountain Hardwear Man! Me sporting my $100 MH pants I got for $15 after my REI Dividend and 20% off coupon and my $225 ultralight 14.9oz down jacket I picked up almost 60% off form Ebay. I'm sporting almost 1/2-G worth of clothes.

Our camp at the new tent sites on Blood Mountain above Slaughter Gap. In an area where bears have learned that food hangs from trees in bags Chris and I felt much safer on the ground then Matt who suspends imself in a tree vulnerable to any passing bear.

Since I'm a gear junkie I had to take a pic of my uber-cool Tarptent. It's the best shizzle fo ma nizzle I've ever used.

Early Sunday morning. Though you cannot tell from the photo Chris is having gastrointestinal problems. I could not get the correct EV shift to capture the moment with my little camera.

Steps leading up to the top of Blood Mountain. This is part of the new Reroute around slaughter Gap. The Appalachian Trai Conference did a wonderful job with this. Hopefully Slaughter Gap will be restored to it's former beauty with a nice long healing period. Read more about the situation by clicking on this underlined portion of the sentence

There were a couple of really annoyingly chatty dorks on top of Blood Mountain... so we hiked a few hundred yards down the mountain to take these wonderful photos on a rock.

The long climb down Blood Mountain. Over 1500 feet of elevation drop in a short 2 mile span will give you some sore knees!
