The GNOME project has built a complete free and easy-to-use desktop environment for the user, as well as a powerful application framework for the software developer.

GNOME is part of the GNU project, and is free software (some times referred to as open source software.)

GNOME is included in pretty much every BSD and GNU/Linux distribution and works on many other Unix systems.

Perhaps a little more verbage here would be nice! Someone could droll on and on or we could have a screen shot or two. Probably would help to formally point to Developer and Foundation from here as well with some special little graphics.
