Sarah Oliver Elam was born in 1806 Virginia and died 1879(?) most likely in Texas. She married Ransom Seay, born 1796 South Carolina and died in the late 1860's in Whitfield County, Georgia. The marriage was believed to have taken place in Spartanburg in 1824. Ransom was the son of John James Seay and Mary Anne Hatchett.
Sarah and Ransom were entrenched in the Spartanburg area of South Carolina by the mid 1820's. Census Records show that they were present in DeKalb County, Georgia by the 1830's and the 1840's. They are in Chattooga County, Georgia Census in 1850 and the Whitfield County, Georgia Census in the 1860's. Family records indicate that Ransom died during the sixties and it is believed that Sarah moved to Texas with one or more of her children and died there. A grave has not yet been found. (However, her son-in-law did purchase a grave plot in October 1879 in the old McKinney Cemetary, which is about the time that Sarah's death was believed to be. The grave is unmarked.)
