Canine Search and Recovery

Canine Search and Recovery was formed in Virginia on November 8th & 9th, 1996. The goals of the organization are to provide networking and education for search and rescue canine handlers.

Our training seminar on May 5th - 9th of 1997 in Appommatox, Virginia was attended by 85 trainers and their canines. On the first night of the seminar, 2 handlers and a support person from the North Carolina SAR Dog Association, 3 handlers from the Illinois - Wisconsin SAR, and a bloodhound handler from Missouri responded to a search for a 4 year old girl missing 291 miles away in Jonesville, Va. The search was successful and the girl was returned home after being checked for scratches and minor dehydration.

NEWS STORY OF EVENT BELOW

(SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA) - A happy ending to report...in the overnight search in the cold, Southwest Virginia mountains for a missing 4-year- old girl. Nicole Parsons was found unharmed in a woody, rocky area about 4 miles west of her Jonesville home. She is described as hungry and dehydrated...but otherwise ``OK.''

The search for Nicole was joined by search and rescue teams from seven states...who happened to be attending a national convention and training session in Appomattox. -0

The 1998 seminar will be held in the North Carolina mountains on October 5th through 9th. This is peak leaf watching season in Western North Carolina!
