A REPORTER'S NOTES...
The Plan: Teach a lesson to those who
challenged Moreno at the June membership meeting. Her paid subjects spent weeks
recruiting members to stack the meeting.
The
Goals:
#1. To overturn the motion Sue Inman made at the June meeting
requiring payroll records with LTW vouchers.
#2.
Overturn the appointment of Mike Drake as the United Way coordinator for the GT
Unit.
The Stack: "The Queen's subjects" had
around 50 members and the 'righteous' had about 25. The side of the 'righteous'
didn't put out an effort to recruit members because they believe the members
are sick & tired of the in-fighting.
The Strategy: The 'righteous'
anticipated an ass kicking.
Control: Moreno placed a microphone in the
middle of the room, appointed two sergeant at arms while Rich the Rottweiler
and others stood ready to work at Moreno's direction.
The rottweiler:
Rich Burke, Nita's Chief Steward/significant other
*moves to hold out motions passed at
June's membership meeting before the minutes were approved.
The
antagonist: Drake called *point of
order! He explained that you can't hold out previously passed motions to
overturn them and explained why. Moreno seemed somewhat confused but agreed.
Rottweiler: Made another attempt under new business to
*"reconsider" the motions passed at the
June membership meeting. (wrong again Rich)
Antagonist: Drake again
calls a *point of order, citing a motion
to *reconsider has to be done at the
same meeting.
*The Local
is required to use Robert's Rules of Order (Parliamentary Procedure) to conduct
membership meetings. That's why you hear this weird jargon used at
meetings.
Queen of Hearts: Nita Moreno disagreed with Mike and
rule against his point. She didn't give a reason. Her obligation as the
chairperson was to look up (in Robert' Rules')
"how to reconsider a motion". Had she done so she would've known her ruling was
incorrect. Mike challenged her decision and lost. Her subjects had been
directed to vote in her favor. [In Local 9510 personal loathing usually
prevails over right vs. wrong.]
Reporter: At this
point in time, this reporter was not clear on whether there was a vote on the
"reconsideration" or not.
Rottweiler: Made a motion that
overturned a motion made and passed by Sue Inman at the June meeting. It
changed the intent of the Inman motion. The Burke motion substituted payroll
stubs with time sheets. It also placed a 30 day requirement instead of the 2
weeks of the original motion. [Employees are given an unlimited number of blank
time sheets. Time sheets are then completed by employees It is conceivable one
version could be given to the company and another to the local. Could this be
why time sheets are the preferred method of verification instead of check stub?
Hmmm? Did the motion pass? You can bet your next LTW check it did!
The
Crowd: Hoots & Hollers! The Queen of Hearts' subjects were so excited over
this victory they honked up the next move! [Why is this
time sheet issue so important to so few?]
The Blunder!: While
two of the Queen's subjects were approached the microphone
[To undo the appointment of Drake as the United Way
coordinator?] someone yelled out, "Motion to Adjourn". The motion did
not come from the side of the "righteous" and obviously was not part of the
Moreno plan).
Queen of Hearts: Moreno attempted to stop the motion
stating there were still people who wanted to make motions.
Antagonist:
Drake strikes again, "Point of order, madam chair"! He explained the motion is
not debatable and must be voted on.
It's a Wrap: Caught up in the chaos
the votes say let's go home folks, we're missing prime time TV.
The
after glow: The Queens' subjects retreat to consult in her chambers. The
Rottweiler is feeling smug and has a few words with the Antagonist. The
antagonist says, "looks like I'm still the United Way chairperson". The
Rottweiler responds, "We'll just see about that.."
Parking lot chatter:
Members say they were summoned by the Queen's subjects to attend because they
had been led to believe member from the GT unit were going to make a motion to
split the local and take half of the local's assets.
[Were they going to leave the asses?]
These were Pac
Bell members. They were reluctant to attend because of all the overtime they
were working. They explained they would lose double time if they attended the
meeting. They claim, Nita agreed to pay them any lost double time for attending
the meeting (an allegation of misuse). [It is amazing how
persuasive one can be when they hold the purse strings to the members
money.]
Conclusion: Montoya ~ Moreno, so
far this reporter fails to see the difference. CAN
YOU??

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
In a democracy, the majority
does not have the right to rape the minority. A complaint was filed regarding
the conduct of the President who chaired the meeting! The procedural wheels
have started to turn. The CWA procedure for complaints is worse than filing a
grievance. It takes twice as long to resolve it and you have half as much
chance of winning.
To see it...
AND WHAT HAPPENED
TO THE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BUDGET [THAT STARTED THE WHOLE RUCKUS IN JUNE] WHICH
WERE SUPPOSED TO BE ANSWERED IN AUGUST???
DID THEY FORGET?
I DON'T THINK SO!
THEY ARE COUNTING ON THE MEMBERS
TO FORGET!
