MIKE MILLIMAN
[minimal]
(AKA 'Big Nil')
Executive Board (Pac Bell)
He should seek help!
(It must be very painful to have one's head up one's
ass!)
"Elected!, Elected!, that's all I wanna be". Actually he wanted more but the members knew he didn't have the 'right stuff'. Mike has been the spoiler in many a race for higher office. What happened this time to "Big Mill'? He took his sights off the 'big prize' and settled in for one of the Executive 'Horde' positions. Does he know what to do with it? Probably not but then, neither do several of the others! The record so far? He hasn't missed too many trips out of town or spent much time on the job. One thing he does know and that is how to keep his calendar full!
MIKE MINIMAL REPORTS:
January '97
Mike makes a motion! "I want to
attend the CWA Safety Conference in New Orleans, LA" after Moreno announced the
conference and who would attend (the Safety Chairperson and John Natoli). The
President told Mike that a motion was not necessary and if he wanted to go to
New Orleans all he had to do was say so! The motion was withdrawn and stricken
from the record. Mike did not make a report on his trip to the conference or
share his experience in the newsletter.
E-Board Member Mike Milliman will be
working on contracting issues along with Barry Weston and J. Natoli.
I don't feel safer or better as a
result of Mike's experience, Do you? Has the number of contractors in your work
group been reduced since this trio went into action?

Executive Board of Local 9510, both by action and with words, protect our
members who have disputes with our local to use the internal complaint
processes, rather than lawsuits that could impact the financial stability of
the Local". Motion adopted! (Who could be against
it?) E-Board Member Mike Milliman reported on his work with
contracting issues. In the Service Rep. Group, he was able to have two
contractors terminated.

*E-Board Member Mike Milliman gave notice of his intent to
rescind the motion made on June 15, 1995 which states: Effective immediately,
all software with graphics, software of a personal nature and access codes are
to be removed from the CWA Local 9510 owned computers and utilized by the
secretarial staff. All fliers, bulletins, mailers and other printed material
designed for distribution to members shall contain a bonafide CWA printers
union label.
*This is the history of the motion, the maker, the intent and
what the removal of it will mean; The motion
was made, seconded and carried on June 15, 1995. The maker of the motion was
none other than our President who, at that time, was the Vice-President (Pac
Bell Unit). When the original motion was made and passed it was done to prevent
an out of control President (Montoya) from using the equipment at the Local
office to create fliers, bulletins and/or other printed material for
distribution that was self-promoting. The motion also included a provision that
access codes from computers owned by Local 9510 be removed. [During the Montoya
era there was a situation where one of the support staff (a secretary no longer
employed) had codes in the Local computers and some of the officers, including
a past president or two were afraid to check on what was in "her" computer. It
was sort of like the 'tail wagging the dog'] Another (and one of the most
important points) part of the motion was that any printing done for
distribution to members be done by a 'union shop' and carry the union 'bug'
(label). After all, shouldn't a 'union' only buy and/or use 'union made'
products?
With that motion rescinded the current President can do some
of the things she fought so bitterly against. When discussion on the 'motion to
rescind' came up the following question was asked and is printed here for any
thinker that cares to ponder it: In order for fellow members on the Executive
Board and any rank and file member who sees the motion can understand the
ramifications of the motion will someone please answer this question; Was the
motion currently in place done to prevent abuse by an out of control Local
President or was it done because the current President was upset because she
and/or her loyal subjects were not the people abusing the power members had
given them by virtue of electing them? If so, it is conceivable (just about
anything is...) that an apology is owed Montoya and the members for what they
did in the name of "Truth, Justice and the American
way"!
