Chemistry Online Assignments

1. General Considerations

One hundred points out of the 600 total points in General Chemistry will be obtained by completing homework problems assigned at the web site WebAssign.

https://www.webassign.net/login.html

Each problem set will have a due date and time.   You must complete these assignments before the due date. After the due date you will receive no points. WebAssign allows you to submit answers twice.   The first time your assignment will be immediately graded and the incorrect answers are marked.  If you are satisfied with the initial grade, then you are finished with that assignment. If you are not satisfied with the grade, then you can correct the answers and submit it a second time. Your score for the assignment will be that of the second assignment.

2. Signing Up For WebAssign

You should purchase the Access Code at the HCC  bookstore or Books and More (Lois Av).

If this is not possible, you can purchase the Access Code at the following link at a higher price.

https://webassign.net/secure/

The Access Code allows you to sign on to WebAssign to   complete your homework assignments.   WebAssign has a two-week grace period for submitting the Access Code.   If you do not enter this code in two weeks you will not be allowed to sign in to the web site.

3. Computers

If you have a computer at home that connects to the web, then you may do the assignments at home.  If you do not have a computer or an internet connection, then you should complete your assignment at one of the computer labs at HCC.   Computer labs are located in the Science building on the second level, Social Science building, Humanities building, Library, and Technology building.  If you cannot use HCC’s computers, then you complete your assignments at a public library.

5. The First Time You Login To WebAssign

Begin by reading the WebAssign Student Guide that can be found at the following URL:

http://www.webassign.net/info/support/stu_support.html

It tells you much of what you need to know to successfully complete your assignments. Additionally, click on Technical Support and the Student Guide.   This guide will show you how to answer different types of questions, saving your work, receiving feedback, and additional WebAssign resources. Upon completing this section continue to the Common Problems page.  Just click on the link found on the left side of the page.

Note: Do not forget to change your password to something that you will not forget.

6. Introductory Assignment

Before starting your first chemistry assignment it is highly recommended that you complete the assignment called Introduction To WebAssign .  This assignment will help you to better understand: 1. the WebAssign interface, 2. how to answer different types of questions, 3. entering numbers ,  and 4. entering the Access Code.

7. Grading

EEach problem and question has a point value.  Your score on each assignment is the total number of correct answers.  At the end of the semester your points will be converted to the percent of the total points.  This is your grade for the WebAssign assignments.  For example, if you obtain 265/375 points throughout the semester, you will earn 71/100 points for your Online Assignment.  IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you complete all WebAssign assignments and obtain an average greater than 75% you will receive a bonus of 10 points, or if you complete all assignments and have an average over 85% you will receive a bonus of 20 points.

8. Final Note

The WebAssign homework assignments will help you to better prepare for the tests.   Often these problems will be similar or the same as those on the exams.  Remember to keep up with your assignments and do not wait until the last minute.   If you do not submit your answers by the due date they will not count.   No excuses will be accepted!
