Did you also know that...
- According to the Schools and Staffing Surveys
conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics:
- 40%
of teachers report physical conflicts among students being a serious problem.
- According to a 1993 Department of Education study:
- 1 in 6
middle school students said they had personally been victims
of violence at school during the current year;
- Among 6th - 12th graders, 56% said they witnessed
at least one act of bullying, physical attack, or robbery;
- 25%
of students say they worry about becoming a victim of violence;
- Students in high schools reporting high or moderate
levels of violence were 24%-27% more
likely to drop out of school;
- Violence can reduce
the chances of someone attending college by
22% to 51%,
depending on the severity of the violence.
For all these reasons and more, Conflict Smarts
was created. What is Conflict Smarts? Conflict Smarts is an interactive
CD program with nearly two hours worth of material aimed at helping kids to recognize
and reduce the amount of violence in their lives. Here is a short description of
the program.

Conflict Smarts focuses on using the concepts of Conflict Resolution instead of Conflict
Mediation. By introducing students to the cues for recognizing
escalating conflicts and showing them alternative to violence for resolving conflicts,
we empower all students to proactively reduce violence in their lives. The program
is designed to fit into a wide variety of classroom curriculums and uses in the school.
Conflict Smarts is the most cost-effective tool for teaching
young children the basic concepts and tools for dealing with conflicts available.
Conflict Smarts is consistent with the violence and prevention programs of the
Centers
for Disease Control.
Conflict Smarts has been endorsed by:
Priscilla Prutzman, Founder of the Children's Center for Resolution
Dr. John Francis, UN Goodwill Ambassador of Peace
Conflict Smarts is a Macintosh only program available for
school and home use. Lab packages are available. Site license agreements can be arranged.
Pricing:
- Home use = $40 (US)
- School use (per computer station) = $75 (US)
- Lab Packs (5 CDs) = $250 (US) + S/H
