We screen these dogs carefully to ensure that we present dogs which are friendly, gentle, and non-aggressive household pets; and of course Georgia law requires that each dog must be neutered, which further reduces aggressiveness. None of our dogs, regardless of breed, will make a good watchdog - they simply don't have the appropriate temperament. For all our sakes, we ask that you don't try to make them into something they cannot be. If you want an aggressive dog to be trained to guard your property, please look elsewhere. You'll be happier and so will we. And so will the dogs.

Adoptions

Adoptions are held in Griffin on Saturdays, usually twice a month at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds on South Hill Street from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Call to verify the date and time before making the trip.
"Satellite" adoptions are held every Sunday at PetSmart on Mount Zion Road in Morrow from 1:00 to 4:00 PM

The following dogs are listed according to our best information. In many cases, because most of the dogs listed are lost dogs, we present our best estimate of the information about them. We can't absolutely guarantee its complete correctness in all cases, but we do guarantee that it is accurate to the best of our knowledge and belief, and that no attempt is being made to mislead you about the dogs.

"Sex S/N": M = Male; NM = Neutered Male; F = Female; SF = Spayed Female

"HB" Housebroken (or mostly so) - this is often difficult to determine in a Shelter, so many dogs which are not listed as housebroken may actually be trained

"Age": Usually estimated by Shelter or foster home unless the dog is turned in by an owner.

Policies and Procedures:

I. We are a foster home program.

II. Adoption Fees:

All mixed breed dogs $50.00
All purebred dogs $75.00
Cats $60.00
(All cats and kittens have been tested for FIV and Feline AIDS)

Checks will be accepted with picture ID. Reimbursements will be made for animals returned within two weeks; after two weeks, animals will be accepted but no refund will be made.

III. Health

All dogs over three months old will have current parvo/distemper/rabies shots
All dogs or cats will be spayed or neutered.
All cats over three months old will have received their rabies and first distemper shots.
Dogs and cats under three months of age will have appropriate shots for their age and will be inoculated against rabies as soon as they are old enough.
All dogs will be on heartworm preventive. If the dog has been treated for heartworms, the new owner will be expected to agree in writing to continue the monthly preventive treatment.

IV. General

Residents of counties with leash laws must have a fenced yard or an ample sized pen. We will not permit one of our rescued dogs to be kept on a chain; if we discover one of our dogs kept chained, the dog will be returned to the Humane Society with no refund of the adoption fee.
