The
Old Stone Church
(continued)

Our vision is to honor
the legacy of the old and evolving neighborhood with research and interviews
leading to the design of historic site markers and maps, walking history
tours and guidebooks, recorded interviews of remembrances with elders
and neighbors, town meetings exploring historic bi-racial interests and
concerns, student engaged art & history creations, site art addressing
1906 issues, an educational exhibit of neighborhood artifacts from earlier
times, WRFG radio broadcasts of project activities. In the larger framework
of the 1906 coalition, we are looking, through community building, to
move toward a deeper understanding of our roles in the inclusive heritage
and legacy of our neighborhoods; and our shared experiences as human beings
and stewards of the present, looking toward the future. What we can accomplish
by September will become the springboard to expanded communications and
activities.
This "Early 1900s:
Edgewood Community - Candler Park Project" is attracting a broad
coalition of motivated educators, artists, students and citizens stepping
up to the task of unveiling the hidden histories in this early, biracial
Atlanta neighborhood:
