Since
its formation in 1978, we have been involved in various studies of tornadic phenomena. These studies, initially focusing on
Alabama, led in 1980 to the Tornado Threat Plotter (TTP), which provides a
graphical representation of the most probable approach paths for tornadoes.
Following the deadly tornado which struck Huntsville in 1989, we developed the
Site Assessment of Tornado Threat (SATT) software
for tornadic risk assessment.
In 1992, we began a pioneering company-funded study of tornadic
seismic signals, with the goal of developing a seismic tornado
detector. We currently maintain a complete copy of all NWS tornado data
from 1950 through 2010 for the entire United States (excluding Alaska). A
number of technical papers have been published
dealing with our work in this area.
