8. Willis Beard was born in 1838 in Mississippi. He died on 3 Apr 1863 in Camp Butler, Springfield, Illinois. He was buried in Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.

Willis Beard enlisted at October 18, 1861, at Houston in Captain Brice Hargrave's Company H, Nelson's Regiment, 10th Texas Infantry. He was captured at Fort Hindeman, Arkansas Post, Arkansas, January 11, 1863. Was a prisoner at Camp Douglas, Illinois, February 8, 1863, and died there of Enysipclas on April 3, 1863. He is buried with 6,000 other soldiers at Oak Woods Cemetery.
