JOSEPH McNATT SCOTT

AUSTIN - Joseph McNatt Scott, 78, of Florence, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at his home. He was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Caldwell to Joseph Philip Scott and Lillie Kate McNatt.

He was a 1938 graduate of Austin High School, graduate of the University of Texas in 1949 with a degree in journalism, the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary from 1955-56 and Scarritt College in Nashville, Tenn., with a master of arts degree in evangelism in 1979. He was licensed to preach in 1954 as a Methodist minister. He served in many locations in Texas.

He married Lula Mae Barber on March 22, 1948, and when they retired they moved to Florence.

He is survived by his wife, Lula Mae Barber Scott of Florence; one daughter, Cheryl Arlene Roese of Florence; one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell Phillip and Virginia Scott of Houston; one half brother, Phillip Bruce Scott of Kermit; and four grandchildren, Eric Roese, Karen Roese, David Scott and Sheila Scott.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, Dec. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the Florence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Swede Erickson officiating. Burial will follow in the Capital Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Florence United Methodist Church or the Florence Public Library.

Lula Mae Barber and Joseph McNatt Scott had the following children:
