Dupuy honored with Golden Trowel award
Gene Dupuy was presented with the Grand Masonic Lodge of Texas Golden Trowel
award at the Thursday meeting of Big Spring Masonic Lodge No. 1340 AF & AM.
The award is bestowed upon only a few outstanding Texas masons each year and
is in recognition of Dupuy's service to his country, his community and his Masonic
Lodge, according to a news release.
A veteran of the U.S. Army from 1946 through 1966, Dupuy served in many positions
ranging from an Engineer in a Bomb Disposal Unit following World War II to the
chief of facilities, U. S. Quarter Master School in Fort. Lee Va., at his retirement.
Moving to Big Spring in 1967, he worked at the Veterans Administration Medical
Center until his second retirement in 1982.
Dupuy and his wife, Billie, have raised eight children. He has been active in
the Big Spring Masonic Lodge No. 1340 AF & AM for 23 years as well as active
in Big Spring Commandry No. 31 and the Big Spring Scottish Rite Club, where he
currently serves as president The Big Spring Scottish Rite Club is hosting the
Scottish Rite Fall Reunion at Howard College during the weekend of Sept. 7.
Dupuy also has served his community by officiating at many Masonic graveside
services comforting and assisting their families during their time of bereavement.
The award was presented by past master Carl Condray.

BIG SPRING - R.E. ``Gene'' Dupuy Jr., 69, died Saturday, June 27, 1998.
Service will be at 2 p.m. today at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with
burial in Trinity Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Nalley-Pickle & Welch
Funeral Home.
He was born June 29, 1928, in Vernon. An Army veteran, he had worked as an air-conditioning
and refrigeration mechanic at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and
was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Dupuy of Big Spring; six children, Robert
Dupuy of San Antonio, and Julie Luna, Cheryl Bullard, Jeannie Warr, Gerald Dupuy
and Alicia Elam, all of Snyder; a stepdaughter, Dr. Katherine Timmins Vollmers
of Houston; a stepson, David Timmins; his mother, Velma Obera Dupuy of Midland;
a sister, Cynthia Owens of Midland; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
