San Angelo Paper, 1952:

Corp. Hunter Home From Okinawa

Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Hunter, 3001 Lake Drive, left Monday for San Antonio to meet their son, Corp. John Leslie Hunter, due to arrive Tuesday from San Francisco.

Corp. Hunter arrived Friday in San Francisco from Okinawa and will spend a 30-day furlough with his family here and with friends in Alpine and Midland before returning to San Antonio for reassignment.

Corp. Hunter, raised and educated in Alpine, completed big school in Midland in 1949 and, on Sept. 3, 1949, he enlisted in the Army at San Diego. His family resided in Alpine at that time, moving here after Mr. Hunter retired.

Assigned to Camp Stoneman, San Francisco, Corp. Hunter was attached to the 65th AAA and went to Okinawa, sailing from San Francisco on Jan. 18, 1950.

On outbreak of the war in Korea, Comp. Hunter was the first in his unit to volunteer for active service there, but his request was rejected because of his essential status as a radar technician. He has been on 24-hour call duty at his Okinawa post until his turn at rotation came.

Besides his parents, other relatives residing here are a sister, Mrs. Arliene Brown; and niece, Miss Leslie Harris; both of 3001 Lake Drive; and a brother, Eugene Hunter, operator of Perry Courts, 230 West 29th St.
