DIED
In this city, on the morning of the 24 June at the residence of her niece, Mrs.
Ann Eliza Herndon, Mrs. LUCY B. DUPUY, in her 86th year. The subject of this
notice was one of the few left among us of the past generation. She was born
in Garrard county on the 1st of January 1782, and was a daughter and one of the
twelve children of Joseph and Sarah
Craig. Her father was a pioneer Baptist minister, of signal zeal and piety,
who died in 1819, and who located at Craig's Station, five miles from Crab Orchard,
very early in the hisitory of our Commonwealth. At the age of sixteen she married
Joel M. Dupuy, then living in Woodford county, whose uprightness and probity
were conspicuous. Mrs. Dupuy's
life was characterized by no startling events, but as a consistent and zealous
servant of God, a cheerful, energetic and order-loving christian woman, a temperate,
truthful and high-minded member of society, none have been her superior. Her
resignation and humility were marked. Hers has ever been a shining light by
example and precept, teaching golden
influence. Her familiarity with the inspired books was fully exemplified by
her conversation during her last hours. Her connection with the Christian church
ran through a period of over fifty years.
Thus has passed away another link binding us to the 18th century. Her father
and mother died at the age of seventy-eight and seventy-six years respectively.
Her brothers, Reuben and Thomas Craig each lived to be over seventy two, Samuel
Craig ninety-two, James Craig seventy-eight, Joseph Craig seventy-four, Elijah
W. Craig seventy-eight and her sister,
Mrs. Polly Mitchum, seventy-three Her memory will be long and green in the hearts
of her relatives and many friends. H.
