My name is Karen Cockerell, and I previously contacted you concerning the children of John Motley and Elizabeth Dupuy. I briefly stopped at the Salt Lake City library and ran the probate records on Pittsylvania County. I did not find a will for John Motley, however, his estate was inventoried 21 Oct 1811 with final dissolution 2 Apr 1824. Children as follows:
Patsy Nunnelee, Nancy Cook, Elizabeth Anderson, Joel Motley, Obadiah Motley, Polly Hittson, Henry Motley, and Robert Motley.
According to marriages bonds:
Patsy Mottley & Absolom Nunnelee 16 Sep 1811 with Robert Dupuy as surety. (Elizabeth had a brother named Robert).
Nancy Motley & William H Cook 14 Nov 1811 dau of Elizabeth Motley; surety Floyd Tanner (husband of John's sister)
Elizabeth Motley & William Anderson 20 Nov 1815; dau of Elizabeth; surety Robert Dupuy
Mary Jane Motley and Alexander Hittson 18 Jan 1821; surety: Joel Motley
Obadiah, Polly, Henry and Robert under the guardianship of William Anderson from the time the estate was inventoried; therefore underage.
I surmise John Motley was either deceased or ill in Sept when his eldest daughter married; even though I have no reference to Mary Jane being called Polly, I think my husband's ancestor is this Polly. Her youngest daughter named Mary went by the nickname of Polly. By census records in Texas can estimate she (Mary Jane) was born in 1802; therefore 9 yrs old when John Motley died. Family tradition is that they came from Pittsylvania county.
I will continue working this line; tracing siblings, if possible.
I noticed on your home page that you show Barthomew Dupuy and Marie Gardier as parents of Pierre Dupuy. I found references to his wife being Countess Susanne la Villian. Did he have two wives?
Thanks for your time. Hope my information is useful to you. I am grateful for your hard work.
