He was born 1796 in VA, son Alexander Hittson Sr & Rhoda Dodson. As a boy his family lived at Meadsville, Halifax Co VA, and it was in Pittsylvania, VA he married 18 Jan 1821 to Mary Jane MOTLEY ( 1802 - 1870 ).
NOTE: Some researchers state her name as Jemima Jane Motley, however she is reflected on all documents, including her Probate, only as Mary or Mary J.

By 1830 Alexander had moved his wife and first three children to Itawamba Co MS where he was enumerated on the federal census that year. They remained there for several years, as reflected on the 1840 Census. Records indicate he was in the Republic of Texas by 1843. The remainder of their children were born in MS.

According to the Texas General Land Office, Alexander Hitson {sic} purchased Rusk County Land Certificate #4 from Richard Brown, land situated 6 miles from the town of Henderson. He and his eldest son, William, are listed on the 1846 Tax Poll List for Rusk County.

By 1847 William Hittson had married in Bienville Parish LA and was recorded on the 1850 census in Claiborne Parish LA with his wife and daughter, Mary.

Alexander was enumerated in Rusk Co TX on the 1850 federal census, with his family, living next to two of his daughters and their husbands - Elizabeth Hanna and Mary Cockerell.

By this time Alexander's eldest daughter, Leander Caroline had married her cousin Samuel David Hittson in Rusk Co TX. She died there giving birth to their daughter, Mary, in 1847. The child was then given by Samuel to Alexander & Mary to raise and the girl is reflected in their household on the 1850 census.
