Boone was born in 1926. He died in 2010.
BOONE, THOMAS EDWARDS, SR., 83, of Anchorage, passed away April 6, 2010 with
his family at his side.
He was a native of Elkton, KY, born there on August 31, 1926. Tom retired from
the University of Louisville after 25 years of service. He was director of the
Rauch Memorial Planetarium and taught nature recreation. He attended both Vanderbilt
University and Western Kentucky University where he received his master's degree.
Tom owned the first private camp for boys in Kentucky, Camp Country Boy. He taught
at Anchorage Public School and Louisville Collegiate. He was proud to say that
over his lifetime he had taught every age child, from pre-school through University.
In his retirement he enjoyed going to estate sales and spending time in the outdoors
with his family. He was an avid swimmer and cane collector, who devoted much
of his life to teaching young people to appreciate the outdoors. We will remember
him as a positive, happy man who had a great love for God and family.
He was a member of Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Gleason Boone; children, Betsy Boone and Thomas
E. Boone Jr; grandchildren, Thomas and Mary Louise Boone-Abraham, of Louisville;
and sister, Louise Boone Curry, of Georgetown, KY.
A service of celebration for the life of Tom Boone will be held at Pewee Valley
Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 3 p.m. His graveside service
will be held in the Glenwood Cemetery, Elkton, KY on Monday, April 12, 2010 at
10:30 a.m. EDT. Visitation will be on Saturday April 10, 2010 from 1-4 p.m. at
the Pearson-Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road.
