JAMES H. HUNTER DIES AT BLAIR
MERKEL, March 31, James H. Hunter, 67, died at his home near Blair at 4 p.m.
Wednesday, following an illness of several years.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, with
the Barrow-Sheppard funeral hope in charge.
Mr. Hunter had lived in the Blair locality since 1898, going there from McLennan
County. In 1896 he married Maude Adcock at Battle near Waco. He was a Mason
and a member of the Methodist church since childhood.
Surviving are his wife; four sons, Roy Bennett of Alpine, Willis of Fort Worth,
J. J. of Midland, and James R. of Merkel; four daughters, Mrs. Roay Coats of
Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mrs. Otto Kappelman of San Antonio, Mrs. L. E. Bell and Mrs.
Grady Baldwin of Merkel; three brothers, Joe of Fort Worth, Bob of Austin and
S. M. of Lubbock; a sister, Mrs. Bennett Balch, of Temple; 37 grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
He was married to Maude Jane Adcock (daughter of Ransom
Jefferson Adcock and Dorinda H. Brown) on 21 Oct 1896 in
McLennan County, Texas.(1097)
Maude Jane Adcock was born on 26 Feb 1889 in Corsicana, Navarro
County, Texas.(1090) She died on 24
Aug 1954 in Baker, Oregon.(1090) She
was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Merkel, Taylor County, Texas.

MRS. MAUDE HUNTER DIES ON MOTOR TRIP; RITES SET AT MERKEL
Mrs. Maude Hunter, 74, operator of Hunter's Trailer Courts at 1407 Garden City
highway, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Baker, Ore. She was accompanying a son,
W. L. Hunter, and his wife to their home in Portland when she became ill of a
heart ailment.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in Starbuck Funeral Home at Merkel.
Interment will be in the Merkel Cemetery.
Mrs. Hunter left here Sunday by automobile. Her son and his family had been
visiting Midland. She was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in the Oregon
City.
Born in McLennan County, Mrs. Hunter was married to James H. Hunter in 1897.
He died in 1943.
Survivors include four sons, Deputy Sheriff Emmett L. and James Ray Hunter, both
of Midland; J. J. of San Angelo and W. L.; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Kappelman
of Marion, Texas. Mrs. Blanche Bell of Trent and Mrs. Beth Baldwin of Weatherford;
three sisters, Mrs. Jeffie Rice ans. R. E. Kuntz, both of Fort Worth, and Mrs.
Mattie Moore of Cisco; 33 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
John Hunter, a city patrolman, is a grandson.

MRS. J. H. HUNTER DIES ON TRIP TO VISIT HER SON
Mrs. J. H. Hunter, 74, of Midland died Monday at Baker, Ore., to visit her son.
She will be brought here at 1:40 p.m. today, Friday, by train and the funeral
will be at 4 p.m. at the Starbuck Chapel. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Minister Clark of the South Side Church of Christ of Midland will officiate.
Mrs. Hunter was born Feb. 26, 1880, the former Maude Adcock. She and her husband
lived at different times in Merkel, Odessa, New Mexico, Uvalde, Ft. Worth and
Midland. Mr. Hunter was a farmer.
The survivors are: sons, E. L. of Midland, James of Midland, Willie of Portland
and J. J. of San Angelo; daughters, Mrs. L. E. Bell of Trent, Mrs. Ethel Caperman
of San Antonio and Mrs. Grady Baldwin of Weatherford; sisters, Mrs. J. Willie
Moore of Cisco, Mrs. Jeffie Price and Mrs. Ernest Kuntz of Ft. Worth; 33 grandchildren
and 24 great-grandchildren.

Ex-Merkel Woman Dies in Oregon
MERKEL, Aug 25, (RNS) - Mrs. J. H. Hunter, 74, of Midland, died at Baker, Ore.,
Monday.
The former Merkel resident was en route from Midland to Portland, Ore., to visit
her son, Willie Hunter, when she was stricken and died.
The body will be brought to Merkel by train. It will arrive here at 1:43 p.m.
Friday at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
She was born Maude Adcock on Feb. 26, 1880.
She lived in Merkel at various times from 1900 on. She also lived in Odessa,
new Mexico, Uvalde, Fort Worth, and Midland.
Her husband receded her in death.
Survivors include four sons, E. L. Hunter and James Hunter, both of Midland,
Willie of Portland, Ore., and J. J. of San Angelo; daughters, Mrs. L. E. Bell
of Trent, Mrs. Ethel Caperman of San Antonio and Mrs. Grady Baldwin of Weatherford;
sisters, Mrs. J. Willie Moore of Cisco, Mrs. Jeffie Price and Mrs. Ernest Kuntz
of Ft. Worth.
