Denis Blackmore

Denis Blackmore, 61, of Austin died Monday, December 27, 1993.

He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of Delwood Northeast Optimist Club for over 21 years, serving as a board member and vice president of maintenance for the past 15 years. His hard work and dedication provided the youth of the Northeast community with the finest facilities in the city in addition, Denis was editor of the DNEO Newsletter, keeping everyone up to date on what was going on In the club.

His other passion was washer pitching and in 1982 the club initiated an annual "Denis Blackmore Washer Pitching Tournament" In his honor. Though his physical condition deteriorated the past few years, his presence and enthusiasm for the tournament inspired all members.

To say the club will miss Denis is an understatement. To borrow it phrase from a popular song, Denis was, indeed, the "Wind Beneath the Wings" of the Delwood Northeast Optimist Club.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday In the Colonial Chapel at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, Lamar location with Reverend Bob Scott officiating. Interment will be at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks.

Mr. Blackmore is survived by his wife, Hilda Blackmore; his sons, Tracy Allen Blackmore and Tommy Blackmore, all of Austin; two granddaughters, Arlelle and Bailey Blackmore; his mother, Pearl Blackmore of Austin; brothers, Bill Blackmore and Louis Blackmore, both of Georgetown: and two sisters, Myrna Fields and Grace Lane, both of Austin.

The family offers it special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Scion Heart Transplant Program.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Seton Transplant Endowment Fund, 1201 West 38th Street, Austin, 78705.
