He was buried in Campground Cemetery, Garrett, Decatur County, Tennessee.


From the McConnell Book:

James Martin was born September 20, 1796. He married Elizabeth C. Finly, who was born April 17, 1798, February 24, 1820. She was of Revolutionary stock. Her father and his six brothers were all soldiers on the American side in that war.

He was married to Elizabeth C. Findley (daughter of George Findley and Nancy Hagins) on 24 Feb 1820 in Tennessee. Elizabeth C. Findley was born on 17 Apr 1798 in Madison County, Kentucky. She died on 13 Aug 1869 in Decatur County, Tennessee. She was buried in Campground Cemetery, Garrett, Decatur County, Tennessee. James Martin and Elizabeth C. Findley had the following children:

child110 x. Josiah Newell Martin Photo was born on 23 Mar 1840 in Lawrence County, Tennessee. He enlisted in Company H, 31st Tennessee Infantry on 26 Sep 1862 in Trenton, Gibson County, Tennessee. He filed for a Confederate Pension on 25 Sep 1913 in Tarrant County, Texas. (61) He died on 19 May 1933 in Austin, Travis County, Texas. (62) He was buried in State Cemetery, Austin, Texas.

"Josiah Newell Martin, the tenth child, was born March 23, 1840. He has never marrried. He served during the Civil War in the Confederate Army in the 31st Tennessee Infantry. He is a carpenter by trade, but followed farming, while he lived in Tennessee. In writing me of his people he says, "But the best of all, the whole family profess the religion of Jesus Christ, and tried as best we could to live it in deed, and in truth." His father was an elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for a great many years."

MORTUARY


J. N. Martin

J. N. Martin, 93, died at the Confederate Home Friday night. Funeral services will be held from the Home chapel Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. E. M. Mobley officiating.

Interment will be in the State Cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge.
