3. James Martin was born in 1750 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He appeared on the census in 1790 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.⁽³⁾ He appeared on the census in 1800 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. ⁽⁴⁾ He appeared on the census in 1820 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. ⁽⁵⁾ He signed a will on 10 Sep 1825 in Rutherford County, Tennessee.⁽⁶⁾ He died in 1827 in Rutherford County, Tennessee.

From the McConnell Book:

Of the union between James Martin and Sarah Baird born nine children, Susan, Sarah, Nancy, Annabel, Earny, Mary (Polly), Isabel, John and William Martin. Susan did not marry. Sarah Martin married a cousin, Robert Baird; both of them lived all their lives and died in Lincoln County, later Gaston County. Their descendants will be given in connection with the Baird family. Nancy martin married James Wilson and moved to Illinois and settled near Edwardsville. Annabel Martin married A. Dixon; Fanny married ….. Dixon (given name not known); Mary (Polly) Martin married Peter Garrison, -- there were no children born of this union; Isabel Martin married her cousin William Martin, son of Josiah martin; John married Rebeca Davis. She died and afterwards John married Betsy Kelton; William Martin who is my grandfather, married his cousin, Catherine Barber, daughter of Sarah Martin Barber.

I James Martin of Rutherford County and State of Tennessee , being in as good health as is common for men of my age, and of sound mind and memory, calling to mind the mortality of my boddy knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain that my last will and testament that is to say first I give and recommend my soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to the oath from whence it came to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my executors as [more coming later!]

He was married to Sarah Baird (daughter of John Baird and Frances Scott Bradner) in 1768 in North Carolina. James Martin and Sarah Baird had the following children:
