Alfred Nelson was born on 3 May 1806 in Orange County, North Carolina.⁽¹⁾ He appeared on the census in 1830 in Orange County, North Carolina. ⁽²⁾ He appeared on the census in 1840 in Orange County, North Carolina. ⁽³⁾ He appeared on the census on 29 Nov 1850 in Marion County, Arkansas.⁽⁴⁾ He appeared on the census on 31 Jul 1860 in Prairie Township, Searcy County, Arkansas. ⁽⁵⁾ He bought Land Patent 80 Acres on 1 May 1861 in Boone County, Arkansas.⁽⁶⁾ He appeared on the census on 24 Aug 1870 in Prairie Township, Boone County, Arkansas. ⁽⁷⁾ He signed a will on 22 Jun 1872 in Boone County, Arkansas.⁽⁸⁾ He died on 10 Jul 1872 in Boone County, Arkansas.⁽⁹⁾ He had an estate probated on 6 Aug 1872 in Boone County, Arkansas. ⁽¹⁰⁾

Alfred Nelson was born in Orange County, North Carolina, the fourth son of John Nelson and Jenet Tate. John Nelson was a native of that county and served as a Major in the Revolutionary War.

Alfred Nelson was a farmer in his native Orange County, North Carolina, until the mid-1840's when he decided to leave and move his family west. He was on the 1850 census of Marion County, Arkansas in 1850. He was in Searcy County in 1860 and Boone County in 1870.

He signed his will on June 22, 1872, and the will was proved August 6, 1872 in Boone County. His sons William and Newton were appointed co-executors. The estate was generally divided among all his children, with the exception that daughter Isabelle receive all household and kitchen furnishings, and son William $20 more than the rest.

Nancy Gill was born on 14 Apr 1808 in Orange County, North Carolina. ⁽¹⁾ She died on 2 Jun 1869 in Boone County, Arkansas.⁽¹⁾ Alfred Nelson and Nancy Gill had the following children:
