PEARL BLACKMORE
Mrs. Pearl Blackmore, a lifelong resident of Austin, died on March 27, 1998,
at the age of 84.
Mrs. Blackmore's husband, Denis Blackmore, Senior, was killed in action during
the Second World War. His death left her to raise five young children alone.
The happiness and success of those children in later years is a testimony to
her efforts. Four of the children survive, Bill Blackmore of Georgetown, Myrna
Fields of Austin, Grace Lane of Austin and Louis Blackmore of Georgetown. The
eldest child, Denis Blackmore, Junior, died in 1993. Mrs. Blackmore is survived
by 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; as well as a sister, Doris Tankersley,
of Midland.
Mrs. Blackmore will be remembered by all who knew her as a gentle, loving soul
of deep Christian faith. Her death leaves the world a poorer place.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:00 a.m., Harrell Funeral Home, with
Dr. George Magnor officiating, and Reverend Joel Thielepape assisting. Interment
at Capital Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
She was married to Denis Wroe Blackmore Sr. (son of Otis
Blackmore and Elsie Hancock) on 15 Sep 1931 in Austin, Travis
County, Texas. Denis Wroe Blackmore Sr. was born
on 9 Dec 1912 in Austin, Travis County, Texas. He died on 10 Mar 1945 in Oresburg,
Germany. He was buried in Henrichappelle Cemetery, Henrichappelle, Belgium.
Mr. Blackmore was killed in the taking of the Remagen bridgehead in World War
Two.
